Help Build a New Community Food Rescue Program for

Alexandria House, Serving Women and Children in Los Angeles

Every week, a local market just three miles from Alexandria House has freshly prepared organic food available at the end of the day. While the quantities are too small for LA food banks and other traditional food distribution systems, they are large enough to provide approximately 140 to 180 healthy meals each week for women, children, and community members served by Alexandria House in Los Angeles' Koreatown.

Every day, fresh, prepared organic meals are available that could nourish people instead of going to waste. At the same time, women rebuilding their lives, children, and members of our local community are working hard to make ends meet and would benefit from access to healthy, nourishing food. Our project creates a simple connection between these two needs. We pick up freshly prepared organic meals donated by a local market and deliver them directly to a local nonprofit organization in Los Angeles that serves women in transition, their children, and members of the surrounding community.

We are raising funds to cover the costs of making these deliveries possible and allow this program to run consistently and safely.

Every donation helps.

• $25 helps cover transportation for a food rescue delivery.

• $50 helps provide supplies needed to transport meals safely and package the meals for a week.

• $75 helps compensate a staff member, a resident mother, or an Alexandria House alumna to prepare meals, portion large trays into family dinners, and package leftovers into individual meals.

• $100 helps support multiple deliveries, bringing fresh, nutritious meals to more families.

This project creates impact in several ways at once. Healthy food is rescued instead of discarded. Women and children receive fresh, nourishing meals. Whenever possible, meal preparation can provide paid work for a member of the Alexandria House community (residents, staff, and alumni.) One donation. Three lasting impacts.

We're creating a neighborhood model that connects local businesses, volunteers, and nonprofits to reduce food waste while building a healthier, more connected community. No contribution is too small. Together, we can rescue healthy food, reduce waste, and provide nourishing meals to women, children, and neighbors who need them most. Why are we fundraising in two places?

This project is being supported through both Alexandria House's official donation platform and this GoFundMe. We chose to use both because each reaches a different audience. Alexandria House's donation page allows supporters to make tax-deductible gifts directly to the organization, while GoFundMe helps introduce this community food rescue project to people who may discover it through the platform or by sharing it with others.

Both fundraising efforts support the same goal: keeping this weekly food rescue and meal preparation program operating and growing.
