Our Story

The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) stands as one of the most significant achievements in Indigenous economic self-determination in American history, creating a model that continues to strengthen Alaska Native communities and Alaska's economy. The ANCSA Hall of Fame was established to ensure the leadership, achievements, and stories are preserved, celebrated, and passed on to future generations.

History is never more powerful than when it is told by those who lived it. Today, we are among the last generations with the privilege of hearing many of these pioneering leaders share their stories firsthand. Fifty-five years later, we have a rare opportunity—and a profound responsibility—to honor the visionary Alaska Native leaders whose courage, determination, and personal sacrifice made it possible.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to honor some of ANCSA's original pioneering leaders while they can still tell their own stories, while also honoring those who are no longer with us, and preserving the legacies they left behind through the people, communities, and institutions they helped build. The ANCSA Hall of Fame will preserve and share these remarkable stories through annual induction ceremonies, oral histories, educational resources, exhibits, historical archives, and public engagement—ensuring the contributions of ANCSA's pioneering leaders continue to educate and inspire future generations.
