My name is Marcus M., and I am a nonprofit founder, advocate, and whistleblower based in South Carolina. 🧠 One Client, One Catalyst: Why I Stepped Forward

Constantine “Taki” Beleos was a medically fragile adult with complex care needs, placed under the supervision of our agency. During my time as CEO, I became gravely concerned about his declining health and the lack of timely clinical intervention. Despite raising repeated internal concerns, critical standards of care were consistently ignored. Taki ultimately went into heart failure and required a life-saving transplant — a medical crisis that, in my view, could have been prevented with better oversight and ethical case management.

His story was the final straw.

In 2023, I filed an official Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) report with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). While submitted anonymously, I provided my full name and contact information, and expressed concern that retaliation was likely to follow. I also gave formal consent for the Long-Term Care Ombudsman’s Office to contact me and involve me in any third-party review. I believed, and still believe, that what happened was not an isolated incident — but the symptom of a deeper systemic failure.

💔 Why This Matters — And Why I Need Your Support

Since filing my report, I’ve experienced ongoing retaliation:

Health care delays, mobility issues, and financial hardship

Reputational harm that has disrupted a decade of nonprofit leadership

But this fight is about more than me.

Across South Carolina, thousands of adults with disabilities are aging out of care as their family caregivers reach their 70s and 80s. State institutions are closing, group homes are underfunded, and the next generation of care remains undefined.

That’s why I launched The Arc of Lexington — a nonprofit model for affordable, safe, transitional housing communities for vulnerable adults. But retaliation has jeopardized that vision.
