AWARE 2023 - 2 Day Event
Trafficking in human beings, also known as modern-day slavery, is a practice in which people profit from exploitation of others. A $150 billion industry is growing, making it one of the fastest-growing crimes worldwide. Mississippi is no exception.
Established in 2018, Mississippians Against Human Trafficking identifies gaps in services within the existing infrastructure. Mississippians Against Human Trafficking is investing in a new anti-human trafficking strategy to address the growing problem of human trafficking and child sexual exploitation in the state. In order to raise awareness, educate, and report on human trafficking, North Mississippi communities are invited to come together to create the MSAHT Learning and Action Network (LAN).
Monday October 23rd we invite you to come and be a part of an unforgettable night at the yearly fundraising occasion hosted by Mississippians Against Human Trafficking and held at The Gin in Nesbit! This exceptional event offers a delectable dinner prepared by Kendal Aidar, a contestant from Season 13 of Gordon Ramsay's Master Chef. Moreover, it showcases the inspiring journey of a survivor who has triumphed over human trafficking.
Tuesday October 24th come learn about MSAHT’s plan to build safer communities by combatting human trafficking and child sexual exploitation and discover what human trafficking looks like in North Mississippi. Our schedule includes an overview of human trafficking in Mississippi, where we will present information about Sunrise House, the initial shelter for teenage girls who have been trafficked in the state. Additionally, we will discuss the correlation between domestic abuse and human trafficking, as well as the connection between mental illness and human trafficking. In the afternoon, we will have professionals from various fields such as the District Attorney's office, law enforcement, victims advocates, and the state's human trafficking navigators, who will provide insights into what human trafficking looks like in North Mississippi. Throughout the day, participants are encouraged to ask questions
Tuesday's event will be held at the Gale Center in Hernando and is limited to 100 people. We encourage state and local government, law enforcement, victims services providers, educators, religious groups, parents, and the community to attend.
