In late November, heavy rains triggered severe floods and landslides across Aceh. Villages lost power. Roads vanished. Communication collapsed. For many coffee-farming families in our IWCA community, everything they depend on was cut off within hours.

The first updates we received from those in the area were brief, direct, and gave us the reality on the ground:

“Eighty percent of our farmers have been affected.”
“We’ve had no power or communication for eight days.”

Even now, several areas in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah remain difficult to reach. Families are doing what they can with what they have, while local leaders organize relief efforts under challenging conditions.

Local leaders, including the Ketiara Cooperative, are coordinating urgent relief efforts.
They’ve already secured:

25 generators to bring essential power back
25 Starlink units to restore communication in isolated villages
200 sacks of rice (5 kg each) for families with limited food access
10 diesel jerrycans to keep generators running
Air-force transport (Hercules aircraft) to move supplies into areas unreachable by road

The immediate goal: install Starlink units across 25 villages, so families can reconnect with loved ones, coordinate local response, and access accurate information. Communication remains one of the most urgent needs.
