For thousands of adults in our community, literacy is more than reading a book, it’s the ability to apply for a job, help a child with homework, earn a GED, communicate confidently, and achieve financial independence.

That’s why Birmingham Jumpstart is dedicated to empowering teens and adults through literacy, English-language instruction, GED preparation, and workplace education. Every class opens a door to opportunity, confidence, and a brighter future.

This year, we’re making literacy fun through The Lit Spelling B, an exciting adults-only spelling bee where community members, businesses, and supporters compete for bragging rights while raising funds to transform lives.
