What is AiArthritis?

AiArthritis was created to focus in on the 23 autoimmune and autoinflammatory arthritis (AiArthritis) diseases, which also fall under the umbrella of arthritis diseases. Arthritis is not a single disease but rather a term that encompasses over 200 different conditions affecting the joints, tissues around the joints, and other connective tissues. Our organization was founded with the idea that narrowing the focus in on the couple dozen AiArthritis diseases will increase our impact and drive meaningful change.

Our mission is to advance education, advocacy, and research for those impacted by these 23 AiArthritis diseases through peer-led guidance, collaboration, and resources that are driven by patient-identified issues and patient-infused solutions. The work we do is vital to helping expedite detection and diagnosis, improving communication and disease management, increasing access to care, and championing research that tailors to the individualized needs of each person.

A donation to AiArthritis will help us realize this mission, supporting efforts such as:

Distribution of educational and awareness resources to healthcare professionals, researchers, and companies
Supporting advocacy efforts that will lead to public policy wins
Patient-focused projects such as AUTO + Inflammatory Arthritis = X (or YZ) that will increase detection, diagnosis, and treatment
Creation of accessible, approachable resources and tools such as the AiArthritis Voices 360 Talk Show
Attending scientific conferences to stay updated on current research and medical updates

2025 in Review

Each year, AiArthritis has expanded its impact and proven itself as a leading expert on the latest research, advocacy, and resources for those affected by AiArthritis diseases. In 2025, we accomplished the following:

Unveiled the JIA Communication Aids after two years of focus groups with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers
- Washington University in St. Louis recommended this tool be used in every Pediatric Rheumatology practice!
Successfully launched our College Awareness Tour pilot program, aimed at raising awareness and education for AiArthritis with college students -- a key demographic since AiArthritis disease onset is typically 20-40 years old
- Leila P.L. Valete, our Health Education Manager, gave 20 presentations at 6 colleges in Northern and Southern California!
Created approachable and accessible patient-driven resources and tools, such as the Mystery Patient Guide
Debuted the #WTHellth?! campaign, allowing patients to vent their frustrations and inspire positive healthcare solutions
As part of our "Go With Us!" to Conferences program, we provided patient-focused debriefs for research updates presented at ACR and EULAR -- the top two global rheumatology conferences
Expanded our staff to meet the growing needs of our organization and our constituents

About AiArthritis

All of AiArthritis' work is driven by patient-identified issues and patient-infused solutions. Through advocacy, education & awareness, and research, AiArthritis has the insight and experience necessary to drive meaningful change for AiArthritis patients.

Patient-led approach

No one can identify what a patient needs most more than those personally impacted by the diseases. So, we find a variety of ways to invite patient voices 'to the table' to ensure we are addressing issues that matter most to them and to give them opportunities to be as involved in our programs as possible. In turn, our community can take pride in knowing they helped develop the programs and resources that ultimately can improve their lives and the lives of 450 million people worldwide!

We collaborate with other organizations, health professionals, and other groups as necessary to make sure the work we do creates the most impact.

Who do we help?

We help those diagnosed, their support network, and the undiagnosed ("Mystery Patients")... because everyone is undiagnosed before they are diagnosed.
