The gifts of your time, attendance, and financial support have made it possible for Aurora to play a vital role in the cultural life of the San Francisco Bay Area for over thirty years. Since 1992, we have produced plays that focus on the power of language, ideas, and human connection with a level of nuance that only our intimate space allows. We love to entertain, to provoke, and to bring our community together in laughter, joy, and connection.

In 2024, we are facing the greatest challenge in our 32-year history. Unfortunately, recovering and rebuilding from the pandemic has turned out to be far more difficult than enduring the initial shutdown in the first place.

We were able to survive the loss of all ticket income during the shutdown due to a combination of factors, including significant government relief funding, continued donor support, and a sizable bequest. Now, with those one-time resources in the past, things are getting very real.

This isn’t a problem unique to Aurora. The nationwide not-for-profit theater industry is in its most fragile financial state. But there are still reasons to celebrate live theater and hope for a brighter future. We are committed to a roadmap for Aurora to achieve a sustainable business model and a balanced budget in the next five years, centered around delivering exceptional and relevant plays for our community.

Now is the time. We need your help to put our plans into effect. Without immediate additional support, Aurora will close down at the end of our 2023/2024 Season.
