Black Canyon National Park & Curecanti National Recreation Area Need You Now

On July 10th 2025, two massive wildfires are raging along both rims of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park—just as the summer season peaks. The South Rim Fire has already scorched about 3,000 acres and is 0% contained, while a second blaze continues on the North Rim. Wildland teams from multiple agencies—NPS, BLM, Forest Service, state and county fire crews—are battling gusty wind, scorching heat, and tinder-dry terrain to protect park infrastructure, homes, roads, and the canyon itself.

This isn’t just an emergency—it's an inflection point. As the park enters its third day of closure, staff are working around the clock to fight fire and keep everyone safe. Smoke blankets the region, visitor centers remain boarded up, trails are inaccessible, and air quality is deteriorating for nearby communities.
