Sweet Michi was rescued last week from a restaurant downtown where she was something of a mascot. Everyone loved her but it was not a safe place for her, especially being hugely pregnant. We picked her up and got her safely into a foster home.

Yesterday morning she went into labor. At first everything was going smoothly. She delivered 3 healthy babies in the first hour. But then, for the next several hours, she continued to labor with no new baby.

By last night she was open mouth breathing, ignoring the kittens and was in clear distress.

We took her to the emergency vet and through ultrasound and X-rays discovered she had a baby stuck in the birth canal turned at the wrong angle. She needed an emergency C-section to get the baby out.

Sadly, the last of Michi’s babies was stillborn, but Michi came through the surgery with flying colors and, after giving her (and her foster dad) time to rest and recover, she was reunited with her kittens late this morning. All are doing well.
