The Beginning: From Cleveland, With Thought

Cleveland has always been a city of heart and resilience — a place where artists, workers, and dreamers coexist between rebirth and reinvention. But in this energy lies a quiet challenge: navigating mental health, emotional balance, and the weight of surviving without deep resources or community understanding. In neighborhoods across the city, conversations about well-being often felt awkward, trapped in social bubbles where money, knowledge, or access shaped who got to feel seen and supported.

Out of this tension, a small group of Clevelanders — artists, organizers, educators, and everyday community members — began gathering after the pandemic years. They were all products of hard times, uncertain jobs, and creative burnout. Yet they shared one mission: to make space for thinking out loud, for honest conversations, and for care that didn’t depend on wealth but on willingness.

That’s how It’s Okay to Think was born.

The Founding: 2025 and the Power of Collective Care

Founded in early 2025, It’s Okay to Think quickly became more than just a name — it became a movement. What started as a few conversations in coffee shops and art studios turned into a growing collective that reached hundreds across Cleveland.

Every week, the group hosted gatherings — from door-to-door meetups and open mics to backyard bonfires, small festivals, and “Think Nights” that blended mental wellness, art, and collective joy. Our big niche? We don’t separate entertainment from healing — we mix music, art, and real talk into spaces where vulnerability is power.

What makes these events powerful isn’t just the performances — it’s the people. Parents, students, musicians, and working folks — everyone finding comfort in being seen and learning to balance mental health with real-world struggles.

The Reality: Great Work, Small Means

Our work has grown fast, but the funding hasn’t caught up. To date, It’s Okay to Think has run its programs with minimal resources — fueled by volunteers, the generosity of small donors, and partnerships like Microverse Connects and the Coffee Club network.

Despite our impact — reaching more than a thousand people through our festivals, It’s Okay to Party events, and neighborhood circles — we remain deeply underfunded. Our events cost money to host safely and meaningfully. From mental health materials and creative supplies to small stipends for local artists, we’ve stretched every dollar we’ve ever received.

To keep our doors open, pay community facilitators, maintain our programs, and grow into new neighborhoods, we are now asking for $53,000 — the bare minimum we need to sustain our operations and expand responsibly.

The Vision: Where We’re Going

We are projecting to reach 1,000 new participants by next year, continuing programs that change lives and create safe spaces for those who often have nowhere else to go. Our strategic plan includes:

Expanding It’s Okay to Think events to three more Cleveland neighborhoods.
Supporting the It’s Okay to Party program — a mental health-centered cultural event that now draws over 100 people per gathering (plus 20+ family and friends each time).
Building new partnerships with local schools, artists, and wellness organizations.
Training more community mental health facilitators and volunteers.

We’ve proven the impact. What we need now is the investment — to transform the cultural heartbeat of Cleveland into a sustainable ecosystem of care, creation, and connection.
