Fireside Chat With Billie Jean King
Tuesday from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM EDT
Join us for a virtual fireside chat with Billie Jean King on June 30th at 5pm. Serving as the Indianapolis Junior Tennis Development Fund's annual fundraiser, this interactive conversation is one that you won't want to miss!
Story
Life has changed. Schools are closed, summer plans are cancelled, and for the first time in 57 years our courts are empty. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought forth many formidable challenges.
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to hear from Billie Jean King about her experiences. King, one of the ‘100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century’ (Life Magazine), is the epitome of someone who has met challenges head-on, both on and off the court, using tennis as a vehicle to make an impact.
We all know that tennis is much more than a game. It is a catalyst for developing critical life-skills and core values. It is an integral part of our players’ lives. Our program serves as their summer home and extended family. Now that’s missing – at least in the traditional sense.
In an effort to keep kids active and engaged, our coaches have created a digital curriculum to continue providing meaningful instruction during this stressful time. Reminding them that the determination, discipline, and sportsmanship they have learned through tennis, will only better enable them to thrive now.
It’s no secret that institutions world-wide have felt financial strains as a result of this pandemic, and our organization is no exception. The funds raised at this special event will replace the loss of income from both programming cancellations and our annual in-person fundraiser, the Palooza. Your generous donations will allow our organization to continue operations by maintaining a limited staff, creating digital programming, and resuming regular programming and Midwest-level tournaments when restrictions allow.

Join us for a virtual fireside chat with Billie Jean King, moderated by local business leader and tennis enthusiast Scott Dorsey. Serving as the Indianapolis Junior Tennis Development Fund's annual fundraiser, this interactive conversation is one that you won't want to miss!
Tennis legend, Billie Jean King will speak about her life, her connection to Barbara Wynne and the Indianapolis tennis community, and her tips for staying engaged in tennis during this pandemic. She'll even be taking questions from the audience! You are guaranteed to leave this conversation inspired and ready to face the current challenges head-on.
In May of 1970 Billie Jean heard about a growing tennis program in Indianapolis. In town for the Virginia Slims tournament, she agreed to stop by and do a short clinic with the kids. After discovering they were public courts and a community program she stayed 4 hours with the 150 kids in attendance (pictured above). Truly a moment that will never be forgotten, much like this upcoming event.
