Brooklyn Independent (BKI) is a nonprofit middle school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn — and Brooklyn’s only private school dedicated exclusively to grades 6–8. For seven years, we’ve been redefining what middle school can be: joyful, rigorous, and deeply human.

In a city where public and private schools remain sharply divided by income and opportunity, BKI’s sliding-scale tuition model ensures that every student — regardless of financial circumstance — can access an exceptional education and a community that celebrates who they are. At BKI, there is no socio-economic majority — our student body truly reflects the diversity of Brooklyn.
