Why We're Raising Funds

We're raising funds to cover the costs for 216 teenagers—boys and girls, ages 14–17—from across NYC, representing 12 under-resourced public schools—to participate in a free, community-powered event. This is an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t have.

Donations will help cover all tournament costs, including:

⁠A top-tier venue and dedicated referees for all 22 games
⁠ ⁠Quality uniforms for each of the 216 players
⁠Meals and snacks throughout the tournament
⁠ ⁠On-site medical support, insurance, and safety measures

Every contribution brings us closer to the goal.

What Is the Favelas Cup (“Taça das Favelas”)

Founded in 2012 by CUFA — a Brazilian NGO that empowers favela communities — the Taça das Favelas is the world’s largest favela-based soccer tournament, uniting youth across Brazil and now expanding internationally. Each edition brings together over 600,000 participants and opens doors to careers in sports, education, media, and leadership.

CUFA (Central Única das Favelas) has spent over two decades empowering young people in low-income communities through sports, culture, youth leadership, and economic opportunity.

CUFA’s initiatives have received support from global partners, including UNESCO, the Ford Foundation, Amazon, Uber, P&G, Unilever, Heineken, among others.

Favelas Cup is now coming to NYC- and this is just the beginning. Let’s make it happen.
