Our school will be hosting a family friendly neighborhood Carnival on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 11am-2pm. Your tickets include entertainment for both children and adults, including a special performance from the Toe Jam Puppet Band, carnival games, and unlimited time in an inflatable obstacle course!

All proceeds from the Spring Carnival will go towards continuing the BPS impact on our community.

Brown Play School's Story over 75 years!

2025 marks Brown Play School's 75th year of educating preschool children! Started in 1950 by Brown University community members, Brown Play School is now an independent preschool serving three, four, and five-year-olds in the greater Providence area. As a partnership school, we foster a participatory environment where parents and families are integral in their child's education.

Our unique program encourages children to be open-minded, curious, creative thinkers who will continue to ask questions and seek knowledge as they grow and mature. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy (https://www.brownplayschool.org/about-3) of child-centered play and learning.

Art exploration is a key component of our school day (https://www.brownplayschool.org/s-projects-side-by-side) Children have daily access to a fully stocked art studio with a full-time art teacher to guide them in their exploration and practice. Music is an elemental piece of every day during our circle times, and twice a month, our music teacher from the RI Philharmonic delights the children by introducing new songs and pieces and working on specific musical foundations. Our woodworking program allows children to use real tools to build things under the guidance and supervision of a qualified woodworking teacher. Whether it's a collaborative project for a piece that will be enjoyed at the school for years or an individual project that will be taken home; the children learn how satisfying it is to create something useful and long-lasting and are proud of their accomplishment.

The diverse range of experiences and explorations that BPS brings to the children develops skills and appreciation that can be built upon throughout their lives. Whether it's learning how to plant seeds to grow vegetables and flowers and care for them as they grow, practicing a variety of fun yoga poses to help us learn how to focus on being mindful, or continually practicing how to identify and regulate our emotions, these are foundations that BPS kids carry with them for life.
