Ten years ago this month, the Bradley Street Bicycle Co-op held our very first DIY Shop Hours. The intention was simple: come work on your bike with the company of helpful new friends and access to tools and space you might not otherwise have.

Not only is it still going strong every week – it sparked a decade of community impact throughout New Haven. Building skills. Building relationships. Riding more bikes, more often.

Your gift today supports our future, but it’s also a celebration of the incredible space we’ve all built together over the last ten years. Your support will make it possible for BSBC in 2026 to:

Sustain new bike donation partnerships. Over 250 of our New Haven neighbors received free bikes this year from the co-op. In addition to longtime partners like IRIS and Connecticut Mental Health Center, we’ve launched and will sustain new partnerships with EMERGE, Believe In Me, and Amistad House, as well as distributing to dozens of neighbors in need.
Open our third year of the Newhallville Bike Box. Despite losing a grant due to the actions of the current administration, we supported over 280 people getting their bikes fixed (and fixed up bikes for giveaway) at our satellite location in Newhallville this year. We can’t wait to enter our ‘third season’ with better space organization, more volunteers, and improved flow.
Invest in volunteer education. Volunteers are at the heart of the co-op fixing bikes, supporting folks who need a hand, and welcoming people into the space. Next year, we’ll be building on the momentum of our community nights and new volunteer systems with more frequent skillshares, mentoring, and educational resources.
Double as a vital third space. In a time when gathering together is more important than ever, we’re proud to open our doors for clothing swaps, concerts, zine fairs, and book clubs – and plan to improve our space and working structures in support of this.

Thank you for supporting this work and everyone we welcome into the warm glow of our garage door: the tinkerers, neighbors, flat fixers, wheelie-poppers, musicians, commuters, bike-packers, community organizers, karaoke singers, and the bike-curious.
