15 years ago, we started with a simple question: What would it look like if every birthing person had access to a doula, regardless of their financial situation?

In May 2011, BirthWell Partners Community Doula Project was founded with that in mind. We believed then, and still believe now, that support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum should not depend on what someone can afford.

Since then, this work has grown in ways we could not have imagined. With the support of people like you, we have:

Trained nearly 500 doulas
Supported more than 3,200 families
Started expanding beyond Birmingham to reach more families in Alabama

Over the past 15 years, we’ve seen the difference it makes when families are supported. When a mother feels alone or unheard during one of the most important times of her life, the impact can be lasting. But when a mother is heard, a baby thrives. When a family is supported, a community grows stronger.

And we’re not done.

As we look ahead, we are focused on supporting more families, training more doulas, and continuing to make this kind of support accessible to those who need it most. With your support, we can ensure that the next 15 years are even more impactful and that every family has the care and guidance they deserve during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.
