Meet Charlie – the very first baby goat born at Angel’s Acres this spring. Full of life, playful hops, and an irresistible bleat, Charlie has stolen the hearts of everyone at the sanctuary.

But on Wednesday, July 23rd, everything changed.

Charlie began screaming in pain and was unable to urinate - a terrifying and life-threatening emergency in goats. Our founder, Bobbie Wright, recognized the signs immediately. In a race against time, she and our animal care team, drove Charlie in the middle of the night to Purdue University Animal Hospital in Lafayette, IN, where their expert team performed emergency, life-saving surgery.

Charlie's tiny abdomen had begun filling with urine, and his bladder was on the verge of bursting. His urethra had ruptured and without immediate intervention, he would not have survived.

Thanks to quick action, Charlie is alive, in his own hospital room under 24-hour care, strong pain management, and the watchful eyes of a dedicated veterinary team. He’s able to walk around but he is still fighting for his life.

He’ll need to stay at Purdue for at least 7–10 days as he continues to recover. We are hopeful he won’t require further surgery, but the coming days are critical.

This kind of emergency expense is incredibly difficult for a small sanctuary like ours - but we never hesitate when it comes to saving the lives of our animals. Now, we’re asking for your help.
