Taiko is a full-body performance art that blends physicality and musicality, movement and rhythm. Originating in Japan but molded by a globalized world, taiko performances pay homage to ancient rhythms as well as innovate contemporary beats.

Over the course of 8 weeks, participants will gain an introduction to taiko, as well as fundamental skills regarding form, strike, and rhythm. The last session will include a small recital for family and friends. No experience necessary!

DATES: Tuesdays from 5:30pm - 6:30pm, March 5 - April 23, 2024

LOCATION: Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity, 130 Pine St, Northampton, MA 01062

PRICE: $150

Class limited to 14 participants. Ages 16+. (Participants under 18 will need a guardian's signature to register)

Taiko qualifies as a form of exercise. Participants should expect to stand for the duration of the practice, and may be asked to sit on the floor. Although minimized by proper form and technique, taiko playing does include some impact to wrists, elbows and shoulders. Please contact us if you require any special accommodations.
