Taiko is a full-body performance art that blends physicality and musicality, movement and rhythm. Originating in Japan but molded by a globalized world, taiko performances pay homage to ancient rhythms as well as innovate contemporary beats. 

Over the course of 8 weeks, participants will gain an introduction to taiko, as well as fundamental skills regarding form, strike, and rhythm. The last session will include a small recital for family and friends.  No experience necessary!

DATES: Mondays from 5:30pm - 6:30pm, October 17 - December 12. (Skipping one Monday for November holidays) 

LOCATION: Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity, 130 Pine St, Northampton, MA 01062

PRICE: $150 

Classes limited to 10 participants.  Ages 16+.

Mountain River Taiko was founded in 2011 and serves western Massachusetts and surrounding areas.We strive to increase intercultural awareness by sharing the joy of playing taiko drums,  and to enhance our technical, musical and performing skills in an atmosphere of cooperation, playfulness, joy, and respect.
