We invite you to join us on Sunday, October 19, for our annual Matthew Bender IV Annual Fall Lecture. Matthew Bender IV was not only a visionary for preservation, but also a foundational figure in Historic Albany Foundation (HAF), serving as both a founding member and the inaugural President. Each year, we gather to pay tribute to his legacy through a special reception and thought-provoking lecture.

This year’s event promises to be particularly engaging as we will feature a panel of esteemed historians and experts specializing in the Erie Canal. Together, we will delve into discussions commemorating the remarkable 200-year anniversary of this significant waterway.

HAF is excited to have partnered with Discover Albany and the NYS Canal Corp. to bring 200 Years of the Erie Canal: Past, Present and Future to life. To date our speakers include Jill Delaney from Discover Albany, Rebecca Hughes of the Canal Corp, and Derrick Pratt of the Erie Canal Museum and the panel will be moderated by John Callaghan of the Hudson River-Black River Regulating District.

In addition, the replica Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief will be docked in Albany that day as part of its bicentennial voyage. Click here for more information on the boat and it's visit to Albany.
