Anyone can join our Community Activist-In-Training Workshops. These will be a combination of in-person and virtual meetings for all registered youth over the next few months. Dates for the workshops will be emailed to you as they are announced! Our first one is set for January 29th, 2026 and will be held at Berks Nature.

If you would like to take your activism further, there will be an opportunity for five Berks County emerging leaders between the ages of 15-24 to participate in hands on conservation, empowerment, and citizen engagement work. These applied and real-world grass-roots opportunities will work directly to help the environmental health of Berks County watersheds and communities.

As a selected Activist-In-Training Mentee, you will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Delaware Riverkeeper Network advocacy and science staff, as well as our local Berks County allies that are working to protect Berks County natural areas, regional climate initiatives, streams, and forests from threats. This mentee portion of the program will run for approximately six months for each qualifying mentee selected. There is room for 5 mentees during this project timeframe that runs through April 2026.

In our mentee program you can expect to work with topics that could include, but are not limited to*:
• Proposed quarry expansions, warehouses, fossil fuel threats, stream redesignation petitions, clean water act protections, and other water and forest threats.
*Actual efforts that mentees will focus on are solely based on the threats that arise and require community organizing.

Potential mentee goals could also include, but are not limited to:
• Submitting a Right-To-Know request and/or undertaking file review; preparing comment or testimony at community meetings, meetings with local leaders, preparing an application to serve on volunteer municipal boards, councils, or committee, and learning about Pennsylvania’s Green Amendment and protections under our State Constitution.
