Saturday at a KFC in Pasco County, Florida, a pet carrier was spotted beside the dumpster. Inside this carrier was a beautiful solid white adult cat with slight abrasions on his neck. The cat was transported to Pasco County Animal Services and their vet team found him to be a healthy 14.7 lb male cat.

When scanned for a microchip, they learned that his name was Steve and he was registered to Janice in New Hampshire. Reaching out to Janice, it was discovered that Steve was adopted as a kitten in New Hampshire 7-1/2 years ago for her grandson, Gavin. The family had a close friend named Big Steve who passed away one week before they adopted their kitty, so they decided to name their new kitty Steve in his honor.

Gavin loved his kitty, Steve. But one day 4 years ago, the family went to run some errands with Steve safely inside the house. When they returned a short while later, Steve was nowhere to be found.

Janice and Gavin searched and searched endlessly for Steve. Gavin never gave up hope that Steve would be found. Sadly, Gavin was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor on December 3, 2021 and passed away weeks later on January 15, 2022, Janice's grandson passed away at just 10 years old without ever finding his kitty Steve.

Now, somehow, Steve turns up, tossed away like trash at a KFC in Florida. His family has never been to Florida and hasn't left New Hampshire since before Steve went missing. Steve remains the sweetest kitty but holds the secret of where he has been for the past 4 years and how he ended up in Florida, far from his home in New Hampshire. His microchip has helped him find his family, even if it is missing his little boy.
