Story
Welcome to Rider Registration for the 2023 Bike.Build.Home 500 ride! We have closed registration for the 2023 ride as of 7.6.23, working on final preparations for the riders. This site also welcomed Donations that help cover costs of the ride.
Our Bike.Build.Home 500 mission is to raise funds for affordable housing organizations while building community and camaraderie with this multi-day bicycle ride.” Plans are underway for the 2023 Ride July 11-16 in the LaCrosse, Wisconsin area. Our overnight lodging will be at Onalaska Luther High School.
This Ride continues fine traditions of the Habitat 500 bike ride, which had been coordinated by Habitat for Humanity for 30 years. Past riders, committee members, and founders of the Habitat 500 formed an organization to carry on the spirit of the Habitat 500 ride under our new name: the Bike.Build.Home 500. The fiscal sponsor of Bike.Build.Home is A Better Society, which is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization.
Many of us have become like family over the years of our riding and volunteering together. We have formed these bonds while doing important fund-raising work for affordable housing. We want to continue this work.
We’re going back to our roots, utilizing the nearly-all-volunteer spirit of the original Habitat 500 from 30 years ago, and updating it with everything we’ve learned under the leadership and guidance of the Minnesota Habitat office. While Habitat-MN’s involvement with the ride ended in 2022, we are grateful to their staff for all the assistance they provide as we transition to a separate entity.
