Story

Black Farmer Fund is a non-profit organization creating a thriving, resilient, and equitable food system through investing in Black food systems entrepreneurs and communities in the Northeast.

The idea to create Black Farmer Fund came from two Black farmer-activists meeting at a conference in 2017 and sharing frustrations about the lack of financial assistance available for Black farmers. They decided that there needed to be a means for community members to access integrated capital (mix of grants and low interest loans) that recognized the historical discrimination of lending and banking that informs the present reality of Black communities.

Through a community governance and collective decision making model, Black Farmer Fund facilitates low interest loans and grants for Black farmers, herbalists and food business owners across the Northeast. Our investment process is community led, and centers economic justice, community wealth building, and restoring ecological balance with the environment. We also provide business development support and hold community building and networking spaces for those supported by the pilot fund.

All donations to Black Farmer Fund are tax-deductible and 100% of donations will be re-granted to a Black food system entrepreneur in the Northeast!

Please note that this campaign is a continuation of our 2020/2021 Giving Tuesday campaign.
