The Open Ice Foundation was created with one simple purpose, to make hockey more accessible for kids and families across Maine. What started as a small idea written on paper has grown into a community-driven effort filled with heart, purpose, and the belief that every child deserves a chance to play the game they love.

For many, hockey is more than a sport. It teaches discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. It gives kids a place to belong, a sense of confidence, and lessons that reach far beyond the ice. But for too many families, the cost of equipment, ice time, and league fees stands in the way. The Open Ice Foundation was founded to help change that.

Through scholarships and donated gear, we work to remove those financial barriers and give more kids the opportunity to lace up their skates and be part of something bigger. From a first stick to a new pair of skates, every contribution helps a child experience the joy and life lessons that come from hockey.

While our focus right now is on scholarships and equipment, we plan to grow into offering mentorship programs and clinics in the future, connecting young players with coaches and athletes who can inspire and guide them both on and off the ice.

Rooted in Standish, Maine, the Open Ice Foundation is built on community spirit and the shared love of hockey. Every donation, every piece of gear, and every show of support helps us continue to grow the game and give more kids the chance to play.
