A letter from Bob:

January 5, 2026

I’m incredibly happy and deeply grateful to be able to share that I’ll be running a marathon in Boston once again this April in support of Christopher’s Haven.

Okay, to be honest, sure, it was a disappointment not to receive an official Boston Marathon number this year. Oh well. Luck of the draw.

But that’s alright. I have found a ridiculously awesome alternative about which I am equally excited.

On Saturday, April 18, I’ll be running the 26.2-mile 26.TRUE Marathon, a race that starts and finishes in Malcolm X Park in Roxbury and runs through the heart of the city. This will be my 24th marathon overall and, yes, my 12th time running 26.2 miles for Christopher’s Haven.

Over the years, yes, I have officially run the Boston Marathon 17 times, and every single one of those marathons was run for charity. About half of those bibs came from the BAA via my running club, the Greater Framingham Running Club, and the other half came directly through the nonprofit organizations I ran for. If I had an official Boston Marathon number, I was running the race for charity every single time.

The only other times I ran Boston were three unofficial runs (“bandit” runs) back in the day when that was possible. Since the beginning of my official Boston Marathon journey, my commitment has always been running for something bigger than myself.

In addition to Christopher’s Haven, I’ve also proudly raised funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Home for Little Wanderers, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital for Children over the years. Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, colleagues, teammates and neighbors, I’ve raised more than $45,000 for charity as a marathoner so far.

My first marathon was Amherst in 1980, still my fastest ever at 3:22:47, and I’ve also run the New York City Marathon twice.

Christopher’s Haven, “a home for kids when cancer hits home,” provides housing and support for families whose children are undergoing cancer treatment in Boston hospitals nearby. They come from all over the world during the most frightening time of their lives, and Christopher’s Haven gives them stability and community when they need it most.

I love these families. I love these kids. And I believe in this organization with my whole heart.

I still have a few minor injuries which I feel occasionally, but I’ve been running regularly - just a little less, a little smarter - pacing myself better, listening to my body more. I’m well trained, as always, as excited as ever and all in on going the full 26.2 mile-distance once again. In Boston. In April. For the kids. For the families. For Christopher’s Haven.

But I couldn’t be successful on this journey without your support.

So, thank you for believing in me. Thank you for believing in my cause. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me help those who stay at Christopher’s Haven.
