When we opened applications for the Maya Angelou Travel Scholarship, we knew there was a need, but we were moved by the incredible response!

The sheer number of applications we received speaks to just how many women are eager for the opportunity to travel, connect, and immerse themselves in these transformative experiences. We received more than 180 applications from women across 15 countries and 27 U.S. states—from Lagos to London, Nairobi to New York. These women share a deep desire to see the world, connect with diverse cultures, and step into transformative experiences that will shape their personal and creative journeys.

Thanks to the generosity of our first sponsor, Melissa Jones, we’ve already awarded scholarships to two travelers who receieved $5,000 toward one of our 2025 BOOKED Trips to Ghana, Morocco, or Colombia—where they’ll explore literature, history, and community through travel. With so much interest, we want to do more.

We are launching this campaign so our greater community can come together to help more women be part of this transformative experience. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of May 2025 to fund two additional scholarships, allowing more of the incredible women who applied to embark on a BOOKED Trip this fall and experience these life-changing journeys.

Inspired by the life and work of the iconic Maya Angelou, the BOOKED Trips Maya Angelou Travel Scholarship honors women of color who embody her spirit of exploration, creativity, and social justice. Just as Angelou traveled the world—drawing inspiration from places like Ghana, Egypt, and beyond to fuel her art and activism—we believe that travel can be a powerful tool for personal growth and self-discovery.
