Across Vermont, thousands of immigrant workers quietly sustain daily life—milking cows, harvesting food, building homes, and keeping local businesses running.

When they or their children get sick, injured, or need care, the system is often confusing, inaccessible, or out of reach.

That’s where Bridges to Health steps in.

A trusted bridge—when it matters most

For over a decade, Bridges to Health has connected immigrant workers and their families to the care they need to stay healthy, safe, and supported.

In 2025 alone, our team:

Supported 1,461 individuals, including 573 children
Helped families access medical care, food programs, and health insurance
Organized community-based health screenings and vaccine clinics
Built deep, trusted relationships in communities often hesitant to seek care

This work is led by 7 bilingual, culturally agile, trusted Community Health Workers, along with a Program Coordinator and over 60 community volunteers- a team who doesn’t just provide services, but addresses health access and health literacy needs identified by communities they serve and builds relationships that impact lives.

Now, this work is at risk

On July 1, 2026, Bridges to Health must transition out of University of Vermont Extension and operate independently under a new fiscal sponsor.

While much of our funding is reimbursed through grants, we must first raise the upfront capital to continue operating—including retaining the trusted team that makes this work possible.

Without immediate support:

Experienced Community Health Workers may be lost
Critical services could be disrupted
Hundreds of families could lose their connection to care
