Investigating Innocence is a not-for-profit organization of private investigators based in Louisville, Kentucky.

Our success in freeing three innocent people from prison, so far, was achieved through pro bono investigative services we provided to indigent inmates and their attorneys. We are counting on the generosity of donors, like you, to continue our mission to free the wrongfully convicted.

Investigating Innocence was started in 2013 by Bill Clutter, who founded the Illinois Innocence Project in 2001. His work was credited by the Chicago Tribune when Illinois abolished the death penalty in 2011, because of the many innocent people who were freed from death row.

We also work on educating policy makers on reforms that are needed. Recently, the Illinois Attorney General established a state-wide conviction integrity unit because of our advocacy work. This reform will make it easier to free the wrongfully convicted.
