In 2017, two college students—Terrance Smith (19), known as Rashaad, and Brandon Jones (20)—had a vision to transform their community through the power of creativity. While studying at Tallahassee Community College, they founded the Burghàlie Academy of Visual Arts with a core objective: to build a sanctuary for creative minds, irrespective of race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Initially, the academy served as a hub for mixers, fashion shows, and networking events, offering a vibrant platform for students to connect through the arts. Over time, the mission expanded to include social justice advocacy, aiming to level the playing field for everyone in the community.

Today, as a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit, Burghàlie Academy goes beyond just art and expression. We work tirelessly to provide underserved youth with access to a quality education, mentorship, and personal development opportunities. Our initiatives tackle pressing issues such as homelessness, recidivism, and juvenile delinquency, empowering young people to lead successful, fulfilling lives as adults.

However, the path hasn't been without its challenges. We are currently grappling with outdated equipment and limited funding, jeopardizing the meaningful progress we have made. And that's why we need your help.

Our Programs & Initiatives:

Creative Workshops: These sessions, ranging from sewing and fashion design to digital media, allow our youth to express themselves while learning valuable skills.

Mentorship Program: Our youth are paired with experienced mentors who provide invaluable life and career advice.

Professional Development: This arm of our academy aims to sharpen essential skills that are critical for professional and personal success.

Financial Literacy: We prepare our students to navigate the world of personal finance, instilling in them the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing.

TBR Fashion Competition: This annual extravaganza is a platform for emerging designers and models, offering a grand prize of $10,000 to boost their business endeavors.

Emergency Assistance: Our financial aid program serves as a lifeline for families in dire circumstances, covering urgent expenses like utility bills and preventing evictions.
