The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a proven, transformative program that helps build a strong foundation for early literacy by providing free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five. Each month, enrolled children receive a carefully selected, age-appropriate book delivered directly to their home at no cost to families. This consistent access to books not only fosters a love of reading but also strengthens language development, school readiness, and family bonding through shared reading experiences. Communities that invest in early literacy see lasting benefits, and this program is a simple, impactful way to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Families in our community can easily enroll their children online to begin receiving books each month. Registration is quick and open to all eligible children, making it an accessible resource for every household. The CB Community Foundation is proud to support and sustain this program locally, ensuring its long-term success and reach. As the non-profit partner, the Foundation will cover the cost of the books (about $2.60 per month, per child).

Community members and partners are invited to join in this effort—donations help cover the cost of books and mailing, directly putting stories into the hands of children who need them most. Together, we can inspire a lifelong love of reading and invest in the future of our youngest learners. Since launching in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has become the preeminent early childhood book gifting program in the world. The flagship program of The Dollywood Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has gifted over 300 million free books in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and The Republic of Ireland. This is achieved through funding shared by The Dollywood Foundation and Local Program Partners. The Colonial Beach Community Foundation connects donors, nonprofits, government, NGOs, businesses, community groups, and individuals to serve current and future needs of the people in and around Colonial Beach. We provide leadership by bringing diverse perspectives together to develop community-wide solutions for problems and issues.

We receive financial gifts from individuals, businesses, and organizations, which we place in endowment funds and invest to generate earnings. We coordinate with fund advisers to distribute grants to a variety of community-oriented programs and nonprofit organizations in the Colonial Beach area.
