During Military Appreciation Month, we pause to honor the service, strength, and continued impact of our military community, including the women veterans who continue to lead and build strong families beyond their time in service. Throughout their military journey, service members and their families demonstrate resilience through frequent relocations, family separations, and reintegration following deployments. That strength continues into civilian life.

As military service comes to an end, veteran families enter a new chapter that brings new opportunities, but also new considerations. One of the most significant is access to affordable, reliable childcare.

Transitioning off a military installation often means losing access to subsidized childcare, with costs increasing anywhere from $600 to upwards of $1,600 per month. These rising costs can directly impact a veteran’s ability to pursue career and educational goals, while also limiting access to enriching programs for their children.

At Foundation for Women Warriors, we focus on supporting women veterans and their families as they build their next chapter. Nearly 70% of the veterans we serve have one or more children.

Our Childcare Assistance program ensures women veterans have access to safe, affordable care while their children continue learning and growing, especially during school breaks. We also provide essential goods such as diapers, cribs, car seats, and strollers to support family stability. In addition, our financial education programs equip veterans with tools to build strong financial futures.

As childcare costs continue to rise, access to support becomes even more critical in helping veteran families maintain momentum and build long-term stability.

Our Solution:

Now through June 30th, 2026, we are calling on our community to help us raise $100,000 to expand our Childcare Assistance programs nationally that benefit both veteran and child. By providing support for post-military childcare, addressing financial insecurity, and delivering resources we help veterans build a foundation where veteran families thrive.

$25 provides a baby kit with essentials
$75 provides a one-month supply of diapers and wipes
$150 provides a stroller or crib
$250 pays for a new mom & baby kit (diapers, wipes, hygiene supplies, infant clothing, post-partum kit, and a stroller or crib)
$350 pays for one week of camp or daycare
$1,600 covers one month of camp or daycare

Brenda's story

Brenda is a Navy Veteran, full-time student, wife, and the mother of both a toddler and a newborn. While she was used to juggling priorities, recently things had taken a turn. Brenda wasn’t sure how much longer she and her family would be able to stay afloat.

She had expected and planned for the financial stress of welcoming a new baby but was put in a difficult situation when her spouse suffered a work injury shortly after the family welcomed their newest addition. During this time, she was also informed of a rent increase.

After several weeks of struggling to make ends meet, Brenda wasn’t sure what to do. She began looking for resources and was relieved to find our Childcare Assistance program.

“Childcare is a huge expense for our family. I am going to school full time and my husband just started to work again after recovering from an injury. This assistance helps allow for some breathing room. I can focus on school without having to worry about how we will pay for childcare. I can also put aside money for other expenses and get our debt under control too.”

Without our childcare assistance, made possible through support from our community of donors and partners, Brenda would have had to delay her education or risk falling into debt, jeopardizing not only her future goals but also her family’s security.

Because of your steadfast support, Brenda and her family are back on track achieving goals that propel her entire family forward.

Our Impact

Last Fiscal Year we served a total of 2,875 unduplicated women and children of which 98% of our financial assistance clients remained in their homes for at least 12 months, 94% remained employed OR enrolled/graduated degree programs, and 98% of professional development participants reported an increase in confidence in their post military transition.
