The Student Technology Equity Fund supports City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) students with low access to digital resources and students of color by providing them with access to technology, internet connectivity, and other classes and supports needed to succeed at school and beyond.

Since COVID-19 and the shift towards remote learning, the need for internet access has increased. Up to 42% of families in the city of Chicago lack internet access, and in surrounding neighborhoods 56% lack computer access creating additional hurdles for City College of Chicago students to succeed academically.

The Student Technology Equity Fund continues to close this digital divide through the following programs and initiatives:

1. The Chicago Connected Program - Provides students with free internet service for up to three years, assuming they continue to enroll at a City College each fall, or upon completion of their credential (degree or certificate).

2. Learn to Own Laptop Program - Expands CCC’s existing loaner laptop programs to provide students with the opportunity to own their laptop if they complete a fall and subsequent spring semester.

3. Digital Literacy and Other Supports – Currently in development, this additional program component will allow students to attend classes, workshops, and other programming for free that provides them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the digital world. In addition, engagement with the Tech Equity Program encourages students to gain exposure to City Colleges tech offerings
