The Clarke County Education Foundation is proud to partner with the Clarke County Litter Committee to establish a $500 annual scholarship supporting Clarke County High School (CCHS) students pursuing studies in Environmental Science or related fields such as Sustainability, Conservation, Ecology, or Environmental Engineering.

This scholarship not only encourages academic excellence but also inspires hands-on community engagement. Each recipient will organize and lead a community litter clean-up project, volunteer a minimum of 10 hours toward environmental initiatives, and share their experience through a brief presentation highlighting their project’s impact and community involvement. The Litter Committee is happy to provide guidance, supplies, and limited support to assist with project coordination if requested.

The Clarke County Litter Committee is a seven-member volunteer group appointed by the Board of Supervisors to raise public awareness, discourage littering, and promote recycling. Its mission is to educate, inspire, and empower the community to improve the environment through beautification and litter prevention. Current members include Christi McMullen (Chair), Tom Bauhan (Vice Chair), John Keim, Mary Martin, Sarah Lobo, Jennifer Summers, and Douglas Shaffer, who serves as the Board of Supervisors representative.

The committee meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the second-floor meeting space of the Berryville–Clarke County Government Center, located at 101 Chalmers Court in Berryville. Meetings are open to the public, and community members are encouraged to get involved.
