Before he was a patient, Matt was a protector.

As a U.S. Air Force Combat Controller (CCT) medically retired from Special Tactics, Matt spent his military career operating in the most dangerous environments on earth. After his military service, he continued answering the call to serve, spending 18 years in law enforcement and ultimately retiring a Chief of Police.

He spent his entire adult life standing between danger and innocent people. He never asked for recognition. He never asked for a break.

Now, Matt is fighting the hardest battle of his life, and he needs our community, his brothers and our supporters to stand behind him.

Years of high-risk operational service and sacrifice have taken a heavy toll:

Cancer & Parkinson’s Disease
Service-connected PTSD
Over 25 major surgeries
Severe spinal issues causing numbness in his arms and hands
Ocular migraines resulting in temporary blindness
Mobility challenges requiring daily use of a walker or cane

Tasks that used to be second nature are now a daily struggle. Yet, despite these immense physical hurdles, Matt continues to face every day with the courage, resilience, and quiet strength of a quiet professional.

Matt is currently enrolled in a specialized nanotherapy program that is showing real, measurable results. However, the next critical phase of treatment, the targeted injection needed to push him past cancer, costs over $38,000.

Health insurance has denied coverage for the life-saving treatment Matt needs.

Following this crucial shot, Matt will be eligible for stem cell therapy designed to offer significant relief from his Parkinson's symptoms. The path to recovery is within reach, but the financial burden is a barrier no CCT should have to face alone.

Combat Controllers live by a simple motto: First There. Last Out. They are the first into the fight, ensuring everyone else makes it home safely, and they are the last to leave.

Matt gave everything to his country and his local community. Now, it is our duty to step up for him. His wife, Buffy, has been by his side as his primary caregiver, advocate, and support system through every step of this fight. While Matt would never ask for help himself, the Combat Control Foundation is standing up to ensure he receives the care he has earned a thousand times over.
