Camp Encouragement 2025: Finding Joy After Loss
For children navigating the complex terrain of grief, finding joy can feel like an impossible task. Camp Encouragement was established in 2016 as a beacon of hope and healing, providing a safe space for grieving children to process their emotions, build resilience, and, most importantly, rediscover joy.

What started as a humble 3-day program has blossomed into a 2-week initiative that has served over 300 children over the years. And now, we’re ready to expand.

In 2025, we are introducing our most ambitious program yet—an exciting, transformative 3-week experience for children ages 7–12, offered completely free of charge. For the first time, campers will have the opportunity to participate in an overnight camp at the Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center in Parkton, Maryland, where adventure-based learning will strengthen their confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.

But that’s not all. Campers will enjoy hands-on experiences like creating their own podcast with CMP Radio, exploring history and culture at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, reconnecting with nature at Spicebush Montessori School, and many more enriching activities. Each moment is designed to empower these children, provide joyful experiences, and nurture their healing journey.

Our Vision for the Future:
As we expand, we’re also building a special program just for teenagers, recognizing their unique needs. We hope to be able to provide this one-week experience, which will be crafted specifically to provide older youth with tools to process grief, build community, and foster resilience.

Starting in 2026, we will partner with Buck Rock Art Camp in New Milford, Connecticut, where campers will have the chance to work on their art, build confidence, and explore new opportunities outside of Chester. This partnership includes three scholarships generously offered by Buck Rock Art Camp, but families will need additional financial support to cover travel and lodging expenses. We are committed to making these opportunities accessible to all who need them.

Our Goal: $40,000

Transportation, lodging, and meals for enriching experiences and overnight trips.
Stipends for counselors and volunteers to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all participants.
Supplies and materials for creative workshops and hands-on activities.

Travel and accommodation support for special programs and partnerships beyond our local community.
