ABOUT CEPA

CEPA’s mission is to decolonize in mind-body-spirit through a diverse array of healing practices and encounters grounded in community care, embodiment and reclamation of ancestral (afroindigenous) traditions. It’s part of a movement of people working to transform their relationships and everyday life centering the visionary leadership of Puerto Rican femmes, gender nonconforming, trans, and queer folx.

In 2018, shortly after Hurricane Maria, CEPA began to anchor our work in this beautiful building which we call Casa-Taller. Although our long term vision is to steward land in Borike (Puerto Rico) as part of a larger movement for landback and reparations, the reality is that we have been based in San Juan for the last four and a half years as renters in a three-apartment building. We think the most organic next step towards self determination is to buy the bldg, providing us a base through which to continue the work. Housing insecurity is on the rise in Puerto Rico as a result of the economic incentives being given to outside investors making it difficult for all boricuas especially for the qt2bipoc community. Securing this building will give us the peace of mind and spirit knowing that we don't have to constantly live in survival mode and can shift our sights to bigger targets and make it possible for us to serve more people.

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN

THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP. The homeowner is Puerto Rican and she grew up in this building. She is a kind and very supportive person. She is open to selling the house but wants to retire ASAP and we need help to secure the funds. Our larger goal to be able to buy this house is $250,000. This year, our goal is to secure a minimum of $50,000 for the down payment and persuade the owners to agree to a seller-financed sale.

In the first phase of this effort, you can obtain one of the beautiful prints that are part of the Tracing the Lines Portfolio which Corinne Teed and Sandy Placido organized in 2020. By making a donation of $130 or more, you are guaranteed a print from the portfolio. Below are the 15 available prints that make up the Tracing the Lines Portfolio with their titles and artist names. In the donation section, you will see an itemized ticket for each print that is still available. Please choose a ticket(s) for the print(s) you desire to purchase in the donation window and make sure to include the mailing address you want it shipped to in the comment box at checkout.

La misión de CEPA es descolonizar en mente-cuerpo-espíritu a través de una diversa gama de prácticas de sanación y encuentros basados en el cuidado de la comunidad, la encarnación de valores y la reclamación de las tradiciones ancestrales (afroindígenas). Es parte de un movimiento de personas que trabajan para transformar sus relaciones y su vida cotidiana centrando el liderazgo visionario de femmes puertorriqueñas, personas de género no conforme, trans y cuir.

En 2018, poco después del huracán María, CEPA comenzó a anclar nuestro trabajo en este hermoso edificio que llamamos Casa-Taller. Aunque nuestra visión a largo plazo es asegurar terrenos para vivienda y economía eco-sustentable en Borike (Puerto Rico) como parte de un movimiento más amplio para la recuperación de tierras y las reparaciones, la realidad es que hemos estado basados en San Juan durante los últimos cuatro años y medio como inquilinos en un edificio de tres apartamentos. Creemos que el siguiente paso más orgánico hacia la autodeterminación es comprar el edificio donde nos ubicamos actualmente, lo que nos proporcionaría una base para continuar el trabajo. La inseguridad de vivienda está aumentando en Puerto Rico como resultado de los incentivos económicos que se dan a los inversores extranjeros, lo que dificulta la situación de todos los boricuas, especialmente de la comunidad LGBTTQIAP+. Conseguir este edificio nos dará la tranquilidad de saber que no tenemos que vivir constantemente en modo de supervivencia y que podemos cambiar nuestras miras a objetivos más grandes y hacer posible que sirvamos a más personas.

Está dispuesta a vendernos la casa, pero quiere retirarse cuanto antes y necesitamos ayuda para conseguir los fondos. Nuestra meta para recaudar el dinero necesario para comprar la casa es de $250,000. Este año, nuestro objetivo es conseguir un mínimo de $50,000 dólares para el pago inicial y convencer a los propietarios de que acepten una venta financiada por el vendedor.

Al hacer una donación de 130 dólares o más, se le garantiza un grabado del portafolio.
