This year, for the first time, we are excited to present four keynote presentations. Through their unique lenses fortified by decades of work in their respective fields, our presenters will invite us to consider ways that we experience and relate to pain; the healing power of nature; and the complex inter-relation of historical and racial trauma in the United States, and both how the impacts can infiltrate families and generations, as well as inspirational possibilities for healing.

Lorimer Moseley Keynote Speaker 📣

"Understand. Enable. Empower. Three ideas transforming Chronic Pain Care. It just might surprise you."

The rise of chronic pain to the top of the world disability burden rankings has led to an explosion of research into how pain works, why it persists, and what can be done about it. Although pain feels like a sensory signal generated in an inflamed or at risk tissue-a warning that tells us we are injured or injuring-modern scientific understanding has comprehensively dismantled this idea. We are all having to rethink pain in general, chronic pain in particular. In this talk, Lorimer will focus on how rethinking chronic pain can pave the way for transformative outcomes, but it is, as a rule, neither easy nor quick.

Dr. Pooja Tandon Keynote Speaker 📣

"Prescribing Nature for Health and Well-Being- A Pediatrician's Perspective."

In this keynote, Dr. Tandon explores how time in nature and movement outdoors can serve as a powerful prescription for health and well-being across the lifespan. She will share the growing body of medical evidence on the benefits of nature contact, highlight barriers that prevent individuals and families from accessing nature, and offer practical strategies and resources to help bridge the gap. Blending science with stories, she invites participants to deepen their understanding of nature as a source of resilience and connection-for themselves and the communities they serve.

Judith Foster Keynote Speaker📣

"Environmental Justice is Social Justice."

We are inextricably a part of the ecosystem. We are nature personified, in that our mere existence is determined by the actions of Mother Nature. This fact is the basis for HERO's mission: to reconnect each individual to our source.

Lee Hawkins Keynote Speaker📣

"Beyond the Dream: Reclaiming Nonviolent Social Change in our Bodies, Homes, and Nation."

Centering survivors, educators, parents, and community leaders, Lee Hawkins offers a framework for embodied nonviolence that aligns with trauma-informed and relational healing practices. Participants will explore: How intergenerational violence embeds itself in family systems and nervous systems; what it means to replace corporal punishment with trauma-informed discipline that teaches rather than terrorizes; how to cultivate relationships of safety and repair in families, schools, and public institutions. Ultimately, Hawkins reframes nonviolence as a body practice, a moral practice, and a democratic practice. His talk invites us to reject the culture of vengeance and rediscover nonviolence as both a strategy of justice and a practice of collective healing.
