The Problem: Childhood grief profoundly impacts bereaved youth, families, and communities. The death of a parent or sibling is one of the most frequently reported adverse childhood experiences. Unaddressed childhood grief and trauma can lead to difficulties, including poor academic performance, mental health issues, and early mortality.

Among adults, loneliness has reached epidemic levels, affecting nearly 50% of adults, 79% of young adults, and up to 40% of older adults. Grief often exacerbates this disconnection, yet few accessible, community-based supports exist.

Our Solution: Common Ground is a collective of volunteers and facilitators who are committed to ensure that no child, adult, or family grieves alone. Peer support groups reduce feelings of loneliness, improve mental health outcomes, and foster resilience by promoting connection and shared coping strategies. The majority of our volunteers participated in a grief support group. They experienced the power of a common ground where they offered and received mutual understanding, healing, and hope. They have come back to be trained, and now commit their time and resources to facilitate support that benefits, individuals, families, and communities as a whole.
