The image pictured below is a poem that was written by a child helped by Child Justice. Her words are a powerful reminder of the impact we can have. "Because of you I am free. Because of you, I can be anything I want to be."

The work we do is tough. It is expensive. And it is lifechanging. The people we directly serve are parents or caregivers desperate to protect their children from violence and abuse. And the people we impact the most are those children. If you were to ask those children who their heroes are, they wouldn't say Superman.

We are Child Justice, a Maryland-based nonprofit legal services organization dedicated to protecting children from abuse. Our work is unique: it centers around the family court system and how it responds to evidence of domestic violence and child abuse in custody, access, and protective order cases. Our priority is the safety of children, and our services are provided free of charge to protective, non-offending parents and caregivers.

The mission of Child Justice is “to protect and advocate for children who have been abused or affected by family violence or coercive control; to support them and their protective parents; and to promote justice for them through legal services, community outreach, education, and policy recommendations.”

The majority of our cases are based in Maryland due to funding from the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services, and Maryland Legal Services Corporation (MLSC), but we have a national footprint and receive referral requests from all over the United States.
