Standing Strong: The Cabricanecos Workers' Journey Continues

One year ago, the Cabricanecos workers won their Liberation Campaign, which included wage increases, designated lunch breaks, and critical job security. Today, their story for justice in the workplace continues as we build the power of collective action and resilient leadership in our immigrant and Indigenous communities.

A Year of Growth and Leadership

The Cabricanecos workers are building on the first anniversary of their victory. The health and safety committee, eight leaders strong, meets monthly with management to ensure safe working conditions and proper equipment, building sustainability. Moreover, one of the critical leaders of the victory, Adelso, advocated for his fellow workers and joined the Laundry Workers Center as a part-time organizer, coordinating outreach efforts and educating laundry workers across NYC about their rights. This summer, two leaders graduated from the LWC Advanced Leadership Institute at SUNY Empire State College, strengthening our community's capacity to organize and lead.

The incoming administration's proposed mass deportation plans threaten our communities, but we remain hopeful in our organizing.
