What we are doing: The Cambridge Community Land Trust seeks to create and maintain permanently affordable community run housing and community-determined spaces. The Cambridge Community Land Trust takes property out of the speculative market and keeps it a collectively controlled community asset for affordable housing and other uses such as community spaces, green space and gardens. There are currently 7 Community Land Trusts in the Greater Boston area, and Cambridge is joining this expanding Network!

How it works: Homeowners can sell or bequeath their buildings to the Community Land Trust, or the Community Land Trust can buy property and develop it. The Community Land Trust retains ownership of the land, and the residences can be purchased or rented. Owners are members of the Community Land Trust, as are Cambridge community members and organizations, to ensure that decisions about Community Land Trust properties reflect the best interests of the Community Land Trust and its Cambridge community.

Why we're raising money: We are raising $25,000 for general operations so that we can establish the community land trust and grow into a sustainable community led organization.
