Casting Hope Further: Expanding Wishing and Fishing in 2026

Every family has a story.

Ours began years ago on the water in Clearwater, Florida, with fishing lines, laughter, quiet conversations, and moments of peace for families walking through some of life’s hardest seasons. What started as a simple act of compassion grew into Wishing and Fishing, a core outreach of Reach and Teach Ministry, Inc., officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) in 2012.

Over the years, our journey took us through Lakeland, Florida, and for a short time, Washington, North Carolina. Each move came with challenges, lessons, and growth. Like the families we serve, we’ve faced obstacles — and like them, we’ve kept going.

Today, we are rooted in Palm Bay, Florida, stronger, wiser, and more committed than ever to our mission:
to provide physical and emotional respite for hurting people — especially children with cancer, veterans, and first responders — through healing, joy-filled experiences on the water.

Wishing and Fishing has never been about programs first. It’s always been about people.

Families who needed a break.
Volunteers who showed up with open hearts.
Supporters who believed joy could be part of the healing process.

Through every season, one truth remained: hope multiplies when people come together.

🎣 Why This Season Matters

As we step into this next year, we’re entering a new chapter, one focused on organization, connection, and expansion.

This year marks a new chapter. For the first time, our Board and leadership are organizing outreach, building volunteer teams, and scheduling events intentionally. We’re moving from “let’s do what we can” to “let’s do what we’re called to do”, and do it well.

For much of our journey, technology wasn’t something we used fully. We relied on word of mouth, relationships, and faith, and those carried us far! Now, we’re grateful to have a team of talented, mission-driven people who are helping us use technology the right way as we expand on the core services for which we were called on to provide:

Compassionate Presence – Meeting people where they are, physically, emotionally, and spiritually
Youth Empowerment & Mentorship – Building confidence, leadership, and social connection
Healing Through Experience – Using outdoor activities to promote emotional renewal
Faith & Spiritual Support – Providing prayer, encouragement, and care without barriers
Community Collaboration – Partnering with hospitals, churches, shelters, and civic organizations
