❄️ Wonders of Winter Hikes with Springsong Museum ❄️

Springsong Museum is excited to invite you to explore the wonders of winter along the Copperhead Run Trail beside the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River! Join Senior Nature Educator Gina Ghertner for an engaging guided hike as we uncover the hidden life of the forest during this quietly vibrant season.

Though winter may seem still, there’s so much to see — from winter-only visiting birds and the cheerful yellow blossoms of witch hazel, to the first buds forming on trees in preparation for spring. Along the way, we’ll learn about the remarkable strategies plants and animals use to endure the cold and get ready for the warmer days ahead.

Bundle up, bring your curiosity, and come discover how alive the forest is in winter!

Important details:

Meet at Burnt Mills East (Trader Joe's side): 10701 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20901. There is plenty of free parking.
There are no water fountains available, so you may want to bring a water bottle.
The ground can be uneven, parts are on an incline, and there are a few rock scrambles, so wear hiking boots or other sturdy shoes. Some may want to bring hiking poles.
The hike will be approximately 1 mile, but the trail goes much farther, so if you want to extend your hike, you can do that independently.
Bring your sense of wonder! We will hike at a naturalist's pace, stopping often and taking notice of the world around us.
Dress accordingly for chilly or rainy conditions.
