The Great Chinook!

Last spring Tamworth sculptor Andrea Kennett made a wonderful likeness of Chinook, Tamworth’s famous canine hero (1917-1929).

With owner/ breeder Arthur Walden, Chinook led teams across Wonalancet, New England, then Antarctica. In 2010 the Chinook breed became NH’s State Dog.

THC has raised the funds to have a life-size bronze made, to adorn our front lawn! We are so grateful for generosity so far. We are amazed to have surpassed our original goal for making the statue! We have slightly raised our goal as additional funds are still needed and will be used for a plaque, a bench, and site work for the statue location. We anticipate this to be a place of pilgrimage and would like a comfortable place for locals, and dog and human visitors to "visit" with Chinook.

We can’t wait to have Chinook in Tamworth, and work on the statue is scheduled to begin at the foundry this month. Help us reach the finish line and bring Chinook home. Join the Chinook team!
