Civic Conversations Program Series

The Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation is pleased to host a series of programs focused on civic conversations and community building. Series ticket holders receive a discount and in some cases, reserved seating at each program.

April 5, 2025 (7 PM): An Evening with Political Historian, Dr. Heather Cox Richardson

Spend an evening with professor, author and American historian Heather Cox Richardson. This very special event will be enjoyed in a small theater, with time for questions.

Heather Cox Richardson, PhD, has authored seven books on history and politics. In 2019, Richardson started publishing Letters from an American, a nightly newsletter that chronicles current events in the larger context of American history. Richardson focuses on the health of American democracy. The newsletter accrued over one million subscribers, making her, as of December 2020, the most successful individual author of a paid publication on Substack. Her latest book, Democracy Awakening, is a bestseller.

April 22, 2025 (7 PM): Ray Suarez and friends from Economic Hardship Reporting Project Making Work Work, in America

What do age, immigration, and policy have to do with how we experience the world of work?

The Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation is excited to welcome Ray Suarez, co-host of the public radio program and podcast World Affairs, former chief national correspondent for PBS NewsHour and host of Talk of the Nation, alongside the Senior Editor for Economic Hardship Reporting Project and friends as they discuss what's happening in the world of work across the United States. Suarez will have his new book, We Are Home: Becoming American in the 21st Century, and Economic Hardship Reporting Project will have their recent anthology, Going For Broke, that shares stories of Americans at work, including Ray Suarez himself.

Series tickets are transferable but not refundable. Proceeds benefit the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.
