In honor of the beloved Coach Ian Haggerty, Near West Recreation proudly announces the establishment of the Coach Haggerty Soccer Enrichment Fund. This fund is dedicated to creating opportunities for selected Near West Recreation teen players to continue playing soccer throughout the year, celebrating the game Coach Haggerty cherished so deeply.

Coach Haggerty was a pillar of our community and a steadfast supporter of Near West Recreation’s soccer program. Even after his son aged out of the league, he continued to dedicate his time, energy, and heart to coaching. He embodied everything we hope for in a coach—passion for the game, a commitment to teaching fundamentals, and an unwavering dedication to uplifting every player. Coach Haggerty's leadership and sportsmanship were unparalleled. Win or lose, he showed grace, integrity, and an encouraging spirit that inspired all who knew him. His presence will be profoundly missed on the soccer field and within the Near West Recreation community.

Through this campaign, the fund will annually provide 2-3 U15 Near West Recreation soccer players with the chance to participate in soccer camps, clinics, indoor leagues, or spring leagues—opportunities they might not otherwise have been able to afford. This initiative ensures that Coach Haggerty’s legacy of fostering a love for soccer and supporting young athletes lives on.
