BirthWell Partners' mission is to make doula training and doula services more equitable and accessible, in order to improve the health of families and communities in Alabama.

At BirthWell Partners, we know that increasing access to doula care for historically marginalized pregnant people cannot happen without the "heart" (and hard!) work of community doulas. They are on the frontlines of combatting health inequities in our state because they are committed to serving in their communities. Their community may be defined by geography, race, ethnicity, socieoeconomic class, sexual orientation, lived experience as a teen parent, or lived experience as someone with substance use disorder. Community doulas juggle other jobs and family life around being on-call for weeks or months at a time. They know they will likely get called in to support a client in the middle of the night and that they may be with a client up to 24 hours or more.

There is a dire need for affordable access to doula services in Alabama. The lack of Medicaid coverage for doula services makes it impossible for our families with the most need to pay for doula services. And it makes it equally challenging for community doulas to be able to serve if they are not able to be paid for their life-changing services.

This season, we ask you to focus on the doulas who have entered this profession because they have the heart to advocate and serve in their communities. Your donation to increase access to doula services supports the work of these amazing community doulas.
