2023 PROACTIVE PIONEER AWARD RECIPIENT
MICHELLE THOMPKINS - The CornerStore
The inaugural recipient Michelle Thompkins is a person who has dedicated themselves to creating safe spaces both physically and psychologically for youth in high adversity spaces in the south and west sides of Chicago.
In 2022 she launched an innovative and bold outreach and enrichment program in partnership with the Noble Charter School system.
“Black Boy Heal: See Me, Hear Me” is a powerful engagement presentation designed to destigmatize mental health and generate open discussion through a mix of facts, lived experience stories, music, and digital elements to create a safe open space for self-expression.
TRU IN CONCERT is a specially produced experience for Conclave 2023.
We will have the pleasure of hearing a selection of songs from the musical TRU performed live for us.
TRU was created by David Gosz and Leo Fotos who are musical theatre creators based in New York City. They are first-year members of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and members of the TNNY National Writers Lab.
TRU, was a finalist for the 2017 New York Musical Festival, and debuted with the first-ever sold-out run at the 2018 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival where it took home 14 nominations and 2 wins for "Best Choreography" and "Best Music".
The production has received wide praise and acclaim for its "impactful telling of the relationship between an individual and their mental illness."
The Network choose to make this the featured performance of the evening because of our commitment to amplify self-expression platforms that help destigmatize mental health and inspire understanding
